Gardens in Delhi

Delhi, the capital city of India, preserves and maintains many green gardens and parks, amid its battle to save its greens. Delhi Development Authority and Municipal Corporation of Delhi has kept some of the famous gardens and parks well laid and beautified despite the car clutters, concretes, dense population and deforestation. 

The city still perpetuates the customary set by British, of restoring the Gardens of Mughals to make the city, “a sea of foliage”. Delhi city has a lot of beautiful Gardens and Parks to its credit. These are gardens representing Delhi’s past, heritage cultures, politics and urban fabrics. Here is a long list of wonderful gardens that the capital city owes.

Rose Garden

National Rose Gardens
Rose Garden Delhi or National Rose Garden is completely committed to roses. You will be able to find a large variety of rose plants, including even the unique kind of roses from across the world. 

The rose gardens are a major attraction to the domestic and international tourists along with the students of botany. This well maintained colorful garden nurtures all colors of and surprisingly the rare black roses also. December to February is an ideal time to visit this garden, since these months see maximum blooms.

Shalimar Garden
Shalimar Gardens

Shalimar Garden Delhi holds to it a 350 year old history of Mughal emperors. The Sheesh Mahal Palace and its Garden here was built and used as a halt by Shahjahan during his trips to northern states.  

This place still holds Mughal structures which were reworked by Tourism Ministry to preserve this heritage place. You could still spot some very small wells, flowers and unusual old trees on the orchards of this Mahal.

Talkatora Garden

Talkatora Gardens
Talkatora Garden is amongst Delhi‘s best greens with thick green lawns, flowers and fountains. This splendid Garden was once the battle field of Mughals and Marathas. 

The beauty of this garden is unmatchable during springs, when the flowers are fully blossomed and the lawns are greener. The Gardens get its name from the words Tal and Katora. (Tal means tank and katora is a bowl) There used to be a huge walled water tank here, which is a swimming pool now.
